What’s New on HartfordInfo.org is a periodic update announcing recent additions to HartfordInfo.org. Please feel free to forward this message to others. To be added to the distribution list send an email message through our feedback page.
HartfordInfo.org, a program of the Hartford Public Library, is a gateway to information and data on issues important to those who live and work in Hartford and the region.
Here are some of the recent additions to HartfordInfo.org:
- Work has continued on translating HartfordInfo.org into Spanish. In addition to the home page, which was translated in January, the Hartford Trends portion of the web site has now been translated. Go to www.hartfordinfo.org and click on the “Hartford Trends Statistical Profiles” link in the blue box near the center of the page. Once on the Hartford Trends page, click on the “Espanol” link in the upper right corner. Additional portions of the site will be translated in the coming months.
- Mayor’s 2005 State of the City Speech: Mayor Eddie Perez addressed the City Council on March 14, 2005, reviewing progress and outlining plans for the coming year in areas that include education, employment, housing, the digital divide, the new 311 system, and more. - Breaking the Cycle - Teen Pregnancy in Hartford: Breaking the Cycle is a partnership of the City of Hartford, the Hartford Action Plan on Infant Health, and the Hartford Public Schools created to reduce teen pregnancy in Hartford. The web site includes teen pregnancy statistics for Hartford, descriptions of programs for adults & youth, healthcare initiatives, and more. Go to www.hartfordinfo.org and type “teen pregnancy” in the white search box towards the upper left corner and then click “Search,” or click on “Families, Youth & Children” from the list of categories on the left of the home page.
- City of Hartford Police Department Neighborhood Policing Plan: A description of the new Neighborhood District Policing plan, plus a link to District Maps. Go to www.hartfordinfo.org and type “neighborhood policing” in the white search box towards the upper left corner and then click “Search,” or click on “Public Safety and Crime” from the list of categories on the left of the home page.
- Education Cost Sharing (ECS) Formula: This report explains the State of Connecticut Education Cost Sharing (ECS) Formula, which is used in allocating state education funds to Hartford and other municipalities. - Hartford Carries the Heaviest Economic Stress of Any Large City: A summary of a study by American City Business Journals. The rating is based on a seven-part formula to rate socioeconomic stress, using raw data compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau. - Arts and Economic Prosperity: This national study shows the economic impact of nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences. It shows that in Greater Hartford, the arts contribute more than $250 million annually to the local economy and nearly 5 million people attend arts and heritage events each year. - Immigration in Connecticut: A combination of language barriers, poverty, and policy failures put children in immigrant families at risk for poor education and health outcomes. This report summarizes some of the facts and trends about these children and their families. - One Third of a Nation: This report is about high—and rising—high school dropout rates, some exemplary efforts to retain students, the diminishing opportunities for dropouts to regain a footing in education and training, and the increasingly dire prospects for dropouts in today’s economy. - Pathways to Equal Health: Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Connecticut: The Connecticut Health Foundation's Policy Panel on Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities report includes 14 state policy recommendations that begin to address health disparities. - MDC Combined Sewer Overflow Control Plan: This draft plan provides detailed information on alternatives being considered for the Hartford region sewer system. - Through an agreement with The Hartford Courant, HartfordInfo.org continues to offer selected Courant articles as permanent additions to the web site. A few recent additions include:
